Police calling for witnesses to hit and run incident in Glenfield

1 min read

Police are calling for witnesses to a hit and run incident on Glenfield Road, Glenfield on Thursday 28 July.

Police are looking for a smaller red or black Subaru, possibly a hatch or Impreza which might have a broken front windscreen and a missing right wing mirror.

On Thursday 28 July 2016 at between 6.10pm and 6.30pm a pedestrian was crossing Glenfield Rd, Glenfield just past Eskdale Road in front of the cemetery. As the footpath ends there and the grass was extremely muddy, the victim attempted to cross the road.

As he was attempting to cross a vehicle approached him on his right. The car, travelling towards Glenfield, appears to have seen the man standing in the middle of the road and initially swerved right towards the middle of the road. However, at the last moment the driver has changed direction, passing the victim on his left. The wing mirror of the vehicle has got caught in the bag the victim was carrying.

The victim has fallen onto the windscreen which broke as a result of the crash. The bag strap broke and the victim has fallen onto the road causing him to break his left wrist and he sustained severe bruising to his body and a knock to the head.

Following the incident it is believed the driver slowed down but did not stop to check on the victim and instead left the scene.

Police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the crash or who has information in relation to the damaged vehicle. Information can be shared with Constable Hermien Kok of the Road Policing Team at the North Shore Police Centre on 021 192 0496 or anonymously through CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111.
