Canterbury Police will review four days worth of search data today after the search of a couple of smaller areas yesterday did not find any sign of 64 year old Murray Edge or his belongings.
Inspector Dave Gaskin, Canterbury Rural Area Commander, explains “With the help of SAR volunteers, the farming community and Murray’s friends and family an area of approximately five square km has been searched in atrocious weather. The regenerating scrub and steep gulleys in the search area added to the challenged faced by the search teams.”
“The search area centred on where the friend Murray was hunting with last saw him. Police will be reviewing both the search data and additional information provided to them by friends and family. Murray was an experienced hunter, in good health and is understood to have had food and additional clothing with him at the time he went missing.”
“On behalf of Canterbury Police and Murray’s family we would like to thank everyone who has assisted with the search to date. Local farmers and the farming community, Murray’s friends and family and the SAR volunteers from Twizel, Lake Tekapo, Fairlie and Timaru whose employers who enabled them to take part by taking leave” said Inspector Gaskin
Canterbury Police will not make any further comment until the review of the search to date has been completed.
