Police investigating sexual assault in Porirua

Porirua Police are appealing for help from the public after a 65-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in her home on Waihemo Street, Waitangirua, for several hours on Friday 17 June 2016.

The woman was home alone when she answered the door to a man who claimed to be looking for his daughter, shortly after 6am. He subsequently subjected her to a prolonged sexual assault.

The offender is known to have been to at least one other address in the immediate area with the same story and police are keen to hear from anyone else he may have approached.

He is described as a clean-shaven and well spoken Pacific Island or Maori man, who is over 6ft tall, with short black hair, and aged 35-45. At the time of the attack he was wearing blue jeans with a white t-shirt, grey hooded sweatshirt, brown jacket and brown footwear.

His victim is being supported by family, police and the relevant agencies. Police would like to reassure the public that they are committed to finding the man responsible for this assault and have several investigators on the case.  They would like to hear from anyone who may have seen someone fitting the offender's description in Waitangirua on Friday morning.
