Canterbury Police would like to thank the volunteer SAR teams from Twizel, Lake Tekapo, Fairlie and Timaru and the local farmers and friends of 63 year old Murray Edge who spent a second day searching for him in the upper reaches of the Tengawai River in South Canterbury Today (21 April 2015).
Murray was last seen at around 8.30pm on Sunday (19 April 2015) and was reported as missing shortly after 7.30am yesterday (20 April 2015).
Canterbury Rural Area Commander, Inspector Dave Gaskin, said “The teams searched in poor weather conditions today with low cloud and rain. The terrain being searched is covered in low scrub and vegetation with lots of steep gorge type creeks. Unfortunately due to the inclement conditions there are no additional photographs available tonight.”
The Canterbury Police SAR team will analyse the areas that have been searched so far with a plan to continue the search tomorrow.
“There were around 60 people involved in the search today and we will download and analyse the GPS data overnight in order to identify and prioritise the areas to search tomorrow. So far the search has not found anything to indicate where Murray may be” explained Inspector Gaskin.
A further update will be provided at some point tomorrow (22 April 2015).
