Police make arrest following Ōtara assault appeal

1 min read

Police have made an arrest in the investigation into an assault at Ōtara Creek Reserve in January.

Last week, Police released images to the public following the incident that occurred in the early hours of 18 January 2024.

Detective Sergeant James Mapp, of Counties Manukau East CIB, says a 31-year-old man has since been located by Police.

“The man was arrested and appeared in the Manukau District Court over the weekend.

“Police have charged the man with robbery and indecent assault as a result of our enquiries.”

The 31-year-old is expected to reappear in court tomorrow, 13 February 2024.

“I would like to acknowledge the public who assisted Police and shared our appeal from last week,” Detective Sergeant Mapp says.

“It is pleasing we have made an arrest in this investigation and we have put a man before the Court.”

Detective Sergeant Mapp says Police are not seeking anyone else in connection with the investigation.

As matters are before the Court, Police are limited in further comment.
