Police are releasing disturbing CCTV footage of a serious assault that occurred in the carpark of a service station in Counties Manukau last weekend in an attempt to identify the offenders.

(The footage is now available on the Counties Manukau Police Facebook page)

At approximately 3.00am the 46-year-old victim was waiting in his car at the Gull Service Station on East Tamaki Road to collect newspapers which were to be delivered later that morning when two offenders opened the door and began to viciously attack him.

Police believe the offenders were armed with a firearm, knife and a brick and brutally attacked the victim while he was inside his own vehicle.

They have then pulled him from his vehicle and continued to beat and stab him.

Detective Sergeant Leleni says the victim is very lucky to have survived this horrific ordeal and we need to get these violent offenders off our streets and hold them to account.

“The victim was left with life threatening injuries after the attackers were scared off by a colleague who came to his aid.  Fortunately, he is now in a stable condition and is recovering in hospital.”

“This was a terrifying and completely unprovoked attack. We are appealing to anyone who recognises these offenders to contact Police. Someone will know who they are and we’re appealing to the families of these two offenders to do the right thing and hand them in,” says Detective Sergeant Leleni.

If you have any information which can help  Police please contact the Counties Manukau Crime Squad on (09) 261 1321.  Alternatively you can also provide information anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
