Police respond to armed incident in Porirua

Police staff this morning attended an address in Kokiri Crescent, Porirua, where they were seeking an individual who was wanted to arrest.  During their attendance, an individual presented a firearm and a police dog has subsequently been shot and killed. 

An officer has also been injured while jumping from the second storey of the house as a result of the incident.   A helicopter has been deployed to provide medical assistance.

Police staff, including the Armed Offenders Squad, are currently searching for the offender, who has left the residential property and is reported to be armed. 

The public are advised to avoid the area and to report anything suspicious to 111 immediately.
