1 min read

Waitemata Police are seeking public assistance following the sexual assault of a 16 year-old girl last Friday night (11 July).

The girl was walking near the Glen Eden shops at around 11pm. She was approached by a man driving a silver 4-door hatchback, described as a bearded Indian man, aged in his 30's. She accepted a ride from him, but he drove to the carpark of Ken Maunder Park (off Binsted Road) in New Lynn, where he then sexually and physically assaulted her.

The man then drove to Victor Street (near Great North Road, Avondale), where the physical and sexual assault continued.

He then drove the victim to the main carpark of Auckland Zoo (off Motions Road) in Western Springs, and left her there at around 2am (Saturday 12 July).

Police were notified soon after.

Detective Sergeant Scott Armstrong from the Waitemata Police says the victim has received medical treatment and is being supported by her family, Police and HELP support services.

"We want to hear from anyone who was in the areas of the Glen Eden shops, Ken Maunder Park or the Auckland Zoo carpark between 11pm last Friday night and 2am on Saturday morning, if you also know anyone who matches this description and drives this type of car, please contact us immediately" says Det Sgt Armstrong.

"We also want to hear from anyone who may have been offered a ride from a man fitting this description, regardless of the type of car he was in” he says.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Waitemata Police on 09 488 9754.

Information can also be given anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
