Police step up patrols after spate of overnight burglaries in Porirua East

1 min read

Kapiti-Mana Police are appealing for residents in Ranui Heights and surrounding suburbs in Porirua East to secure their properties overnight.

Police are investigating a number of burglaries that have occurred at night over the last month, many while the occupants have been at home.

Detective Sergeant Mike Sears says "In the majority of cases, access is being gained through insecure doors and windows which people are leaving open with the warmer weather".

"They are targeting easy to take, valuable items such as iPods, cameras, wallets and cash".

Police are encouraging people in the area to remain vigilant and to immediately report anyone acting suspiciously by calling Kapiti-Mana Police on (04) 238 1400.

Anyone wanting to provide information anonymously can call the Crimestoppers organisation on 0800 555 111.
