Police warn fugitive should not be approached

Western Waikato Police are seeking the public's help in locating a man involved in a serious domestic violence incident last month and say the man should not be approached. Detective Alastair McDougall of the Waipa CIB said there have been two warrants to arrest issued for 33-year-old Whanganui man, Owen James HEKE, however Waikato Police were seeking him in relation to an incident in Kihikihi on 26 April. "In that incident HEKE is alleged to have been involved in a home invasion of a domestic nature where a woman was seriously assaulted. He had fled by the time Police arrived. "HEKE is a male Maori of medium build and about 176cm tall. He has a history of violent offending and is believed to be actively avoiding Police. If seen HEKE should not be approached, instead people should ring 111 straight away." Mr McDougall said the last confirmed sighting of HEKE was in Kihikihi on 2 May. "Anyone harbouring HEKE should be aware they do so at their own risk with anyone found to be assisting him to avoid capture likely to face prosecution.
