Quick Police work and a great effort by the public has seen the swift arrest of a man following a robbery in Hamilton yesterday.
Around 3:35pm, Friday 15 September, a man, disguised in a mask, has entered a bank on Grey Street. The man, armed with a knife, demanded cash before fleeing the scene in a stolen vehicle.
A number of bystanders have witnessed the incident and immediately called Police to notify them of the man’s description and direction of travel.
The vehicle has fled from Police and a short pursuit was abandoned due to dangerous driving by the offender. However, with the public’s help, Police have apprehended the offender on Liverpool Street a short time later.
The 32-year-old man appeared in Hamilton District Court today for aggravated robbery, failing to stop for Police, unlawfully taking a motor vehicle and being an unlicensed driver failing to comply with prohibition.
The public played a big part in helping us find this man, and we want to acknowledge that. A number of people called us to let us know where he was as it was happening, and this has been a huge help.
This is a great example of the community seeing something and doing something about it – this behaviour won’t be tolerated and we are pleased to have made a quick arrest.
