Rescue from Mount Taranaki

1 min read

Police are currently co-ordinating the rescue of three tourists from Mt Taranaki.

A helicopter and three alpine cliff rescue specialists have been deployed, after Police were alerted just before 4.40pm.

It’s understood one of the walking party has a broken arm.

The tourists were traversing a route called ‘The Policeman’ on the eastern side of the mountain, which runs from the ski field to the summit.

It is intended that the helicopter will bring the trio off the mountain and take them to Taranaki Base Hospital for medical attention.

Weather conditions in the area are clear.

The Police Media Centre will provide updates when they become available.
