Police continue search for John Old

Canterbury Police continuing to search for 58-year-old John Old are focusing their efforts on the Lake Sumner area. 

Police were informed that Mr Old, of Mairehau, Christchurch, was missing on Friday 8 December and are very concerned for his wellbeing.  

Mr Old is described as 5 ft 6” tall, with a slim build, short grey hair and a short white beard.  Mr Hope may have been wearing a dark blue fleece jacket and sneakers and had a camouflage backpack with him. 

He is believed to have flown into Christchurch Airport on the morning of Saturday 3 December 2016.  

Police believe Mr Old has walked into the Lake Sumner area after having received rides to the Hawarden or Hanmer areas.

Police are focusing their search on the Lake Sumner area and would like to hear from anyone who has given Mr Old a ride, seen him in the area or who have been in the Lake Sumner area, whether they have seen him or not.

Any information on his whereabouts since last Saturday, or sightings of him, should be reported to 111.
