Search continues for man missing in Manukau Harbour

1 min read

The search for an elderly gentleman missing in the Manukau Harbour since Thursday night will resume this morning.

The 74 year-old man hasn’t been seen since he was thrown into the water when the boat he and another man were in capsized just before 5pm on Wednesday.

The Police Eagle Helicopter will continue to do aerial sweeps of the area throughout the day and at low tide this afternoon a Police LandSAR team will attempt a shoreline search between Hamilton’s Gap and the South Head Lighthouse.

Divers from the Police National Dive Squad have attempted an underwater search in the area where the man was last seen, however the treacherous sea conditions including swift currents and very little visibility underwater have meant that it is not possible and is unsafe to continue to dive any further.

Police are continuing to support to the missing man’s family during this very difficult time.
