Search for missing Dutch tourist

1 min read

A search and rescue operation has been launched for a 26 year old Dutch tourist who has been reported missing by friends in Golden Bay.

The man was last seen about 9am on Saturday when he said he was going for a walk on the Hilltop Track in the Wharariki Beach area. He has not been seen since and the alarm was raised when he did not arrive at a planned dinner on Sunday evening.

When the man was last seen he was wearing a red t-shirt and shorts and had bare feet. It is believed he had no other gear with him. He is described as having long hair tied back in a pony tail.

There has been heavy rain in the area and Police have concerns for the man’s welfare as he was not equipped for the conditions. Two teams of searchers have gone into the area this morning.

Police would like to speak to anyone who has been in the Wharariki area over the weekend and anyone who has walked on the Hilltop Track or the Green Hills Route.

Anyone with information should contact Nelson Police Ph 5463840 or Takaka Police Ph 5259211.
