Police acknowledge the sentencing in Hamilton High Court today of Cory Jeffries, who was arrested and charged over Operation Viaduct, following the death of his partner Kim Richmond.

The sentence reflects the gravity of Jeffries’ offending which resulted in the death of his partner of 26 years.

I would like to thank the investigations team who worked tirelessly on this case. This was a challenging and extensive investigation. Police undertook a thorough investigation into the matter which was well managed by a significant amount of local and national Police staff.

The family of Kim Richmond was left shattered by his crime and our thoughts are with Kim’s family at this time. We are grateful for their support and co-operation throughout the investigation.

Staff worked hard to conduct many extensive interviews with a large number of witnesses which were crucial to the outcome today.

Police is committed to keeping our communities safe.  People have a right to be safe in the community and they should be free to go about their lives without harm from people who are close to them.

I ask anyone who fears for their own, or someone else’s safety to dial 111. Do not ignore family violence, you could save someone’s life.
