Serious assault in Kilbirnie

Wellington Police are investigating an alleged serious assault in Kilbirnie, Wellington.

This occurred at about 9.50 this morning at a residential address in Mahora Street, near the Pak and Save supermarket in Kilbirnie.

Officer in Charge of the Wellington Area CIB, Detective Senior Sergeant Warwick McKee, said Police are currently in the area completing inquiries and speaking to a number of persons.

Mr McKee says: “The Victim is an elderly male who has been taken to the Wellington Hospital. His condition has been described as critical ”.

"I can reassure the Community as a male was located in the area shortly after the alleged assault and has been arrested in regards to this matter. He is currently being spoken to by Police .

"Police would still like to hear from any person who may have seen a Male person walking along Mahora street, with no shirt on, heading towards the Coutts street area, at around 9.50am this morning."
