Sexual assault arrest

1 min read

Manawatü Police have arrested a 33-year-old Palmerston North man in relation to a sexual assault that occurred on 8 January, 2015 at a Ferguson Street property.

He has been charged with sexual violation and will appear in the Palmerston North District Court tomorrow (19 January, 2015). Further charges against the man are likely.

Officers located the man during a routine traffic stop yesterday in the City and subsequently arrested him.

Acting Detective Inspector Neil Forlong, Central District Field Crime Manager says: “The good work of our staff as well as the support we have received from the community and local media has resulted in this arrest.”

Police believe the grey sweatshirt that was located at the Ferguson Street property does not belong to the arrested man. Inquiries into the other sexual assaults are ongoing.

“As part of our investigation we are also appealing for sightings of a green 1992 Mitsubishi Lancer Saloon, which is believed to have a personalised number plate.

“If you have seen this vehicle in the Linton Street and West End areas in the past weeks please contact Police,” says Acting Detective Inspector Forlong.

As the matter is before the Court Police is unable to comment further at this stage.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Dave Thompson on (06) 213 9593. Information can also be provided anonymously to the organisation Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
