State Highway 1 south of Tokoroa has re-opened, with speed restrictions in place, after a crash in which two people died and three were injured.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the crash, which occured shortly after 5pm, to contact Taupo Police on 07 378 6060.
Police would also like to thank members of the public who stopped and assisted at the scene in the immediate aftermath of the crash. Some people provided blankets and clothing to asssit victims at the scene, if this was you and you would like the items back please contact Taupo Police.
The Serious Crash Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
