Slips in Manawatu Gorge, drivers urged to drive carefully

1 min read

Police in Manawatu are urging motorists to drive carefully through the Manawatu Gorge.

This is while contractors clear two slips that have occurred within 150 metres of each other due to torrential rain in the region in the past few hours.

The west-bound lane is currently blocked in one area while contractors are onsite and moving the debris.  The one east-bound lane is now open to traffic, however it's moving slowly due to there only being the one lane for traffic to pass through.

It's estimated that the slips will be cleared in hours rather than days.  Police urge drivers to drive to the conditions, use their head-lights in torrential rain, watch following distances and keep speeds down.
