Suspicious package located in Hamilton CBD

Hamilton Police are advising the public to stay out of the Ward Street area of the city due to a suspicious package that was located inside the ANZ bank just before 9.00am this morning.

Senior Sergeant Rupert Friend from the Waikato Police District Command Centre said that Police are in attendance in Ward Street and the immediate area surrounding the bank has been evacuated and cordoned off as a precaution.

“We are in the early stages of our investigation to determine the contents of the package and our main priority at the moment is public safety.

Cordons will remain in place in Ward Street until further notice and the public are advised to alter travel through the CBD accordingly.
