1 min read

Police have this afternoon arrested and charged a man after a homicide investigation was launched in Te Atatū on Monday.

The 29-year-old has been charged with murder and is due to appear in Waitākere District Court tomorrow, Wednesday 13 September.

Police are now also in a position to name the victim.

She was 27-year-old Nazia Hai from Te Atatū.

Ms Hai’s family has been advised and our thoughts are with them during this tragic time.

Detective Inspector Aaron Proctor, Waitematā CIB says the victim and the male were known to each other.

"This is a tragic incident and we are ensuring there is support in place for those closest to the victim.

"We know this will have been a shock to the community, however we would like to reassure them this appears to be an isolated incident.

“As such, Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to this matter."

Detective Inspector Proctor says a post-mortem has been completed and Police have been continuing to make enquiries at the address.

“A Police presence remains in the area while we complete our scene examination, which will likely conclude tomorrow.”

As this matter is now before the Court, we are limited in providing further comment.
