Todays Police exercise in Wellington – MOVED to Petone

1 min read

The Police exercise originally to be held at the Riddiford Building, 13 Hospital Road, Newtown starting today has been moved to the old Petone College, North St, Petone.

The exercise will run at various times over the 8, 9 and 12 November, finishing by 5pm on these days.

Police would like to reassure Petone residents not to be alarmed if they see specialist armed units in and around this location.

Members of the National Special Tactics Group (STG) will be carrying out routine training exercises which will include loud noises coming from the venue, as the exercise involves the use of pyrotechnics.   This is a normal part of training and residents can be reassured there is no cause for alarm.

During the operation staff will be deployed in full tactical kit and will be carrying weapons. The exercise will be overseen by Police assessors.

Police cordons will be in place at this site with Police Exercise Signage also be erected and Safety Officers deployed in hi-visibility jackets.
