Southern District Police advise that driving conditions in Southland are treacherous this morning.
The region is affected by widespread black ice which has caused a number of crashes.
Light snow was also falling in Southland in some areas.
As the sun comes up this morning it is expected that conditions will become worse.
Police advise motorists to take care on all Southland roads and to avoid all non essential travel this morning.
