Two officers recovering from hand lacerations

1 min read

Two officers from Turangi are recovering at home after suffering deep lacerations to their hands.

The two Constables had responded to a concern for the welfare of a 50-year-old man. They located the man in a vehicle in Turangi at approximately 10pm.

The man appeared distressed and did not respond to the officers who were attempting to negotiate with him to get out of the vehicle. The officers feared for the man’s immediate safety and attempted to assist him from the vehicle. As they did so both officers suffered lacerations to their hands from a knife, requiring stitches.

The officers are now recuperating at home with family. The 50-year-old man is currently in police custody.
