Unlawful hunting isn’t worth the risk

1 min read

Otago Lakes-Central Police are reminding hunters that unlawful hunting, including trespassing, will not be tolerated this summer after a 27 year-old male was arrested last Thursday on two charges of unlawful hunting and one charge of trespassing.

Unlawful hunting is not only dangerous to the hunter, but puts property owners and members of the public at risk when they are unaware of hunters on their properties.

Police are continuing to work with key stakeholders in the community, including farmers and forestry companies, to help reduce offending in rural areas.

If hunters are potentially going to hunt on private land, they should first apply for a permit or ask the land owner for their permission – it’s that simple.

The 27 year-old male has been remanded in custody to appear at the Gore District Court on 13 January  2016.

As the matter is before the courts, Police are unable to provide any further comment on these incidents.
