Vehicle Crash State Highway 87 near Outram

At about 5 pm on Saturday the 19th of March 2016 emergency services including Fire ambulance and Police responded to a single vehicle crash on State Highway 87 near the intersection with Tirohanga Road.

A north bound Subaru has crossed the centre line and rolled several times into a paddock.

There were five male occupants in the vehicle aged between 22 and 34 years.  All live locally in the Dunedin/Mosgiel area. Three occupants were thrown from the vehicle. All occupants were admitted to the Dunedin Public hospital, two with serious injuries. A helicopter was utilised to transport one of the patients to hospital.

A scene examination is underway involving serious crash unit.  The cause of the crash at this stage is not known and it is too early to say whether charges will be laid.

Police would like to thank members of the public who stopped to assist at the scene including a vehicle of medical professionals who were enroute to a function in Outram.  That section of State Highway 87 is now re-opened.
