1 min read

Police can now name the victim of the fatal house fire, in Medina Crescent in Parklands at 4.10am this morning, as 16 year old Corey James MCLEAN.  The death has been referred to the coroner.

The other 7 occupants of the house were treated for smoke inhalation at Christchurch Hospital and have been discharged.

Police and Fire investigators have spent the day at the address conducting a scene examination to determine the cause of the fire.  They will continue their work over the remainder of the weekend to determine how the fire started.

Police and the Fire Service say this fire is a timely reminder of the need to have an escape plan as fire moves incredibly fast.

No further details are being released at this time.
