Waiheke boat fire death- Update

Auckland Police are continuing the investigation into the death of a person following a fire on a boat moored at Waiheke Island last night.

A post mortem examination will be conducted tomorrow morning. Police will not be in a position to formally identify the deceased until a positive identification has been made forensically.

The boat is currently under examination by Police and Fire Safety Officers, and interviews are underway with people who were in the area at the time of the incident.

A second person injured in the fire is still receiving medical treatment and is yet to be interviewed by police.
