Whanganui Police attending incident at school

Whanganui Police are currently attending an incident at Churton School, Aramoho.

Police were notified by a member of the public just before 1pm today of a man who was on school property allegedly carrying a firearm.

Cordons have been put in place in the area and a large number of Police staff, including Armed Offenders Squad (AOS) members are currently at the scene. The school has been locked down.

Police are warning residents in the vicinity of the school area to stay indoors at this time.

At this stage AOS have cleared a number of school buildings and have not located anyone.
