New Plymouth Police have this afternoon arrested and charged a 34-year-old Taranaki woman in relation to an incident that occurred at a Hawera residential property on 27 July, 2015 at about 10pm.

Police believe the woman, who resided at the property, had attempted to harm herself and three others (two females and a male) who lived there.

Detective Senior Sergeant Brent Matuku, of the Taranaki CIB says: "Officers spoke with the woman and other witnesses in an effort to ascertain what led to the incident. None of the four sustained any injuries but were assessed by medical staff at the Taranaki Base Hospital."

She has been charged with attempted murder and appeared before the New Plymouth District Court this afternoon. She was remanded on bail and is being provided medical support.

This is an isolated incident and no one else is being sought in relation to it.

As this matter in still under investigation and before the court police have no further comment at this stage.
