Just before 6pm this evening Southern District Police were alerted to a woman lost in the bush in Arrowtown.
The woman, believed to be an American tourist, called Police to say she was lost and unable to find her way out of the bush on the Big Hill Trail.
Police stayed in contact with the woman while preparations were made to launch a search and rescue operation. During this time the woman has been in contact with friends who have walked into the bush and found her.
The woman is being walked out of the bush area and is believed to be cold but otherwise unharmed.
Queenstown police and SAR members will be speaking with the female to check on her condition.
