Citizen satisfaction survey 2008
New Zealand Police wants to make every contact count to ensure we meet your expectations.
We want to improve the way we do things and to make ourselves easier to deal with. In order to achieve this we need the users of our services to describe their expectations and experience of dealing with us. We will then use this information to help shape the way we deliver services in the future.
New Zealand Police is conducting a survey of New Zealand citizens to determine levels of satisfaction with the service it provides. This survey will replace the previous satisfaction research that Police have used as a performance measure over many years.
Police have contracted Gravitas Research and Strategy Ltd, a research company, to undertake the survey on its behalf. The survey will be carried out between March and June.
The survey will be repeated to provide an ongoing measure of police performance and citizen's satisfaction with police. It uses questions and a process which will also be used by other government agencies to measure citizen's satisfaction.
Participation in the survey is voluntary, and the information provided is confidential. No individual will be identified in the findings or personal information disclosed to New Zealand Police.
The survey will include a random sample of people who have called the Communication Centres. The release of names and numbers of recent callers to the Communications Centres is managed by the Communications Centres National Management Group at Police National Headquarters. Individual Communication Centres are not releasing the information on an ad hoc basis. Please note: that the reason why the person made the call or any details of the call is not disclosed or provided to Gravitas.
People contacted by Gravitas to take part in the survey can be assured that:
- the survey is a legitimate research:
- the information they provide is confidential and no personal information or individual comments will be provided to Police; and
- Gravitas is conducting the survey on behalf of Police.
The survey asks general questions about levels of trust and confidence in New Zealand Police, and specifically seeks information on people's experience of contact with police.
The results from the survey will be used by police to help improve the way services are provided. The results will also form part of a wider monitoring of satisfaction with Police as recommended by the Commission of Inquiry into Police Conduct.
