A recent prevention-focussed child restraints checkpoint run by the Manawa Titi (Family Harm) team in collaboration with the Tamaki Regeneration Community (TRC), Baby Bunting and Plunket was a great success.

There were many positive engagements and the team was also able to donate a few car seats, kindly sponsored by TRC.

The car seats allowed the officers to engage, educate and support members of the Glen Innes community with a safety-first approach. But it was about more than free car seats.

No tickets were issued and staff found community members eager to learn about proper child restraints and how to ensure their tamariki were safe in the car.

They checked 24 car seats and gave away 13 car seats.

“A massive thank you to everyone who took part in the successful prevention-focused child restraints checkpoint,” says Constable Trish Agafili.

“A special thank you too to Joseva and the team from Tamaki Regeneration Community who sponsored the car seats we gave away.

“We had many positive comments on the day and many surprised community members who were grateful for the work being done and for receiving the education required for their tamariki.

“This is a powerful testament to the impact we have when working together to achieve better outcomes."

Thank you to everyone who played a special part in the operation, including...

  • Kimiyo and Pania from Plunket who ordered the car seats, checked seat safety for our tamariki and provided statistics.
  • Simone and Danielle from Baby Bunting who assisted with installing/checking and educating our whānau about car seat safety.
