Over the three days that Central District’s Field Days ran last week, thousands of people descended on our Manawatū Police display and enjoyed the opportunity to talk with our people.
The Police display was also well supported by partners Neighbourhood Support and Community Patrols NZ and had many activities to check out for all who came to visit.
On the Saturday 16 March, the final day of Field Days, an action-packed display from the local Armed Offenders Squad drew the crowds who watched with anticipation as the officers conducted their swift response to two ‘offenders’ with a shotgun.
Manawatū Area Commander Inspector Ross Grantham says the Field Days are a superb opportunity for our people to be visible and engage with the rural community.
“The response Police received from our engagement was phenomenally positive as evidenced by the comments across our social media platforms and the feedback from our people on the ground,” says Ross.
“I also want to acknowledge and thank Constable Char Lucas who organised the fantastic Police display and managed the team over the three days.
"Char was well supported by Constable Anthony (Trev) and Police Dog Iha, as well as Constables Tegan Harvey and Casey Boyce on their horses, Doris and Zephyr."
Char says there were many highlights from the day.
“The community engagement was awesome, and it was a real pleasure to attend this important event in the rural calendar,” she says.
“The most popular part of our display were our two officers on their personal horses kitted out in Police livery – people loved talking with Tegan and Casey and giving horses Doris and Zephyr pats.
“The local Rapid Relief Team also put on a BBQ next to the Police display and raised more than $2500 for the Feilding Blue Light programme that supports youth and helps grow their potential.
“We are grateful for RRT’s support and the feedback we received from the wider community – we look forward to next year’s event!”
