Commission of Inquiry adjourned to early next year

The Commission of Inquiry into police conduct has been further adjourned until 7 February 2005.

On Friday 22 October, following a Chambers between the Commission and representative Counsel, the Commission issued a media release outlining its reasons for the adjournment.

In the release Justice Bruce Robertson stated that the Inquiry “has been adjourned again until all work of reinvestigation and criminal responsibility against current and/or former police officers and their associates has been completed and issues are totally in the hands of the prosecuting authorities”.

On 7 February 2005 another meeting between the Commission and respective Counsel will take place to review the situation.

Deputy Commissioner Lyn Provost says the police commitment to, and cooperation with, the Commission of Inquiry continues.

“We are well-positioned to respond to proceedings in 2005,” she says.
