Rescue attempt after car goes into water at Westhaven, Auckland

Emergency services have this evening been involved in a rescue attempt after a car went into Auckland Harbour, at Westhaven Drive.

It was reported that one person was in the vehicle.

Fire and Emergency NZ, Police and Ambulance were alerted at 7.21pm and were on the scene in minutes - with fire crews stripping off and jumping in the water to get to the car.

Despite their best efforts, no-one was retrieved.

The tide is now dropping and fresh attempts will be made to recover the car and any occupant.
