Motor Vehicle Crash – SH8 Tekapo – Twizel Road

1 min read

At approximately 4.30pm on Monday 5th September 2015, South Canterbury Police were called to a motor vehicle crash on State Highway 8 near Lake Pukaki.

This crash involved a single vehicle that has lost control and rolled several times. One of the vehicle’s occupants died in the crash.  Two others are being flown by Westpac Rescue Helicopter to Christchurch Hospital.

A serious crash investigation is underway and the road will be closed while police conduct a scene examination and remove the vehicle from the road. This is expected to take several hours. Police ask for patience and caution from drivers in the area who will be forced to use secondary, detour roads while this investigation is underway.

Canterbury Police will be in a position to release further information once the scene has been cleared and the next-of-kin has been advised.

Police would like to remind drivers to always drive with care and at a speed appropriate to the conditions – road conditions in Canterbury, Otago and Southland may still be affected by debris from yesterday’s storm.
