SH2, Waikino Gorge road closure [1]

25 June 2008

Emergency Services are currently at the scene of a serious crash on SH2 in the Waikino Gorge between Paeroa and Waihi.

Initial reports are that the crash involved a head-on collision between two vehicles and one person has suffered severe injuries.

It is likely SH2 between the two towns will be closed for some time and as their is no alternative route Police are advising motorists against taking any non-essential journeys as there could be considerable delays.

With a scarcity of alternative routes motorists are advised to turn off SH2 at Paeroa on to SH26 to Te Aroha then the Te Aroha- Gordon Rd on to the Old Te Aroha Rd on to SH24 then on to SH29 over the Kaimai Ranges to Tauranga.

Alternatively motorists can turn off SH2 on to SH26 to Tatuanui and on to SH27 to Matamata then SH24 and SH29, again over the Kaimais.

Updates will be posted when available.
