Police have concerns for the welfare of a 46 year-old man who is believed to be on Kawau Island.

Michael BARNEY was last seen at Sandspit yesterday afternoon (Tuesday 30 July). The launch he is believed to have been on was found at Vivian Bay last night.

A search by SAR failed to locate Mr BARNEY.  SAR and the Police Maritime Unit will continue their search today.

Kawau Islanders are asked to check their homes and outbuildings for Mr Barney, and report any sightings to the Warkworth Police on 09 425 8109.

Mr BARNEY is described as a European male, slim wiry build, short light blonde hair and about 5' 7" in height.  It is not known what clothing he was wearing at the time.

UPDATE: At 0840hrs, Thursday the 1st of August.  SAR are still searching of Mr Barney on Kawau Island.  Kawau Islanders are asked to check their homes and outbuildings for Mr Barney, and report any sightings to the Warkworth Police on 09 425 8109.
