Introduction
For now, the 111 text service is only for the Deaf and hearing impaired people who can't use a phone to call 111. Registering confirms you are a member of this community. Police will keep your registration details in our emergency computer system so in an emergency we will know who the text is from. Only 111 texts from registered mobiles will get through.

To register:

  1. Go on line at Deaf Aotearoa or contact your nearest Deaf Aotearoa Community Relations Officer for a copy of the Emergency 111 Text brochure, which has a form you can post or give to Deaf Aotearoa.
  2. Deaf Aotearoa will send you an authorisation code (your number). This is a combination of letters and numbers that the Police computer will recognise as coming from the Deaf community.
  3. Go to the registration page, enter your authorisation code and create your account (set up your information).
  4. You will get a confirmation email and text message to say you have registered.
  5. You are registered and can now text 111 in an emergency.

Need help?

If you haven't got a computer or you're having trouble registering, your nearest Deaf Aotearoa Community Relations Officer will be able to help you.

Once you're registered, you can text 111 in an emergency 24/7. Remember though - if you don't get a text back from us within 2 minutes of sending your first text, contact 111 another way.

Unsubscribing
You can stop using the 111 text service by unsubscribing.
