Canterbury Police investigate report of armed man entering house in Fairlie

At approximately 6.19am this morning (10 February 2015) a homeowner reported that a man armed with a firearm fled from their property after being disturbed by one of the occupants. 

Canterbury Police are investigating the alleged incident and a Police Dog and Handler are at the scene.

The homeowners report that the armed man started a small fire in the house before he fled the scene but they managed to extinguish it without assistance from the Fire Service.  The man is described as tall, medium build, wearing dark clothing, gumboots and something covering his face.
