Homicide inquiry continues in Whangarei

A 60-year-old man will be appearing in the Whangarei District Court today on a charge of assault following the death of a man in Tikipunga in the early hours of yesterday morning.

About midnight on Monday January 26 Police were called to a Balmoral Road address after a violent altercation which left a 25-year-old man deceased.

The 60-year-old man was arrested at the address and Police began a homicide investigation. Two other people, who were at the address, are assisting Police with the investigation.

Detective Inspector Kevin Burke said a post-mortem on the deceased is being carried out in Auckland today. Police carried out a scene examination at the address yesterday with the assistance of specialists from ESR and that is expected to be completed today.
