Police appeal for information regarding Havelock North crash

1 min read

Hawke's Bay Police are appealing to the public for information, following a crash on Te Aute Road, Havelock North, just before 7pm on Wednesday 10 August, where the offending driver failed to stop.

The offending vehicle, believed to be a silver Toyota Altezza, collided with a parked car near Anderson Park.  The impact shunted the parked car against another parked car and both parked cars were badly damaged.

The silver car is also believed to have sustained significant damage in the crash.  The front passenger side is thought to be missing its front headlight casings and possibly some of the front grill.

Following the crash, the silver car accelerated away down Te Aute Road in a southerly direction.

Prior to the crash, the silver car had been involved in a near-miss on the roundabout at Te Aute Road and Porter Drive.  Another motorist on the roundabout had to brake heavily to avoid colliding with the silver car after it sped into the roundabout without giving way.  The silver car then drove into Te Aute Road and pulled over.  As the other motorist drove past, the driver of the silver car pulled out and drove alongside the other motorist until the crash occurred.

The silver car had mag wheels, a loud "big bore" exhaust, and was fitted with a rear spoiler.

"It was only good luck that nobody was badly hurt - or worse - in this incident," says Senior Constable Andy Clinton.

"Anyone with information about the crash, or who may be able to identify the driver or vehicle, can contact me on 06 831 0700."

"If you wish to remain anonymous, you can also call contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
