Hamilton Detectives are investigating an aggravated robbery of a St Johns ambulance overnight.
While on the way to a call, an ambulance officer was waved down by a man on Cameron Road at 12.35 seeking help while another man lay on the ground next to him.
While attending to the man on the ground, two other men joined the group.
They manoeuvred the ambulance officer into the vehicle and demanded drugs.
Whilst the men searched the ambulance, the victim alerted the St Johns operations room and then managed to escape.
Detective Senior Sergeant Ross Patterson of the Hamilton CIB said it is a sad day when an emergency service on the way to a genuine call has to react to a false alarm.
“These people have shown no respect for the service ambulance officers provide to our community,” Mr Patterson said.
“Today we will interview witnesses as we seek to identify those responsible".
A forensic examination of the ambulance is taking place today.
Mr Patterson said he would like to hear from members of the public who were in the Clyde Street and Cameron Road areas at the time of the attack, or from anyone who may know those responsible.
