Serious Crash - North of Gisborne

At 10.45am on Friday 25th March 2016 there was a serious motor crash on State Highway 2, south of the township of Te Karaka, near Gisborne.

Two vehicles were involved in a head on collision.

Three occupants were removed with the assistance of Fire Service.

Four occupants of the vehicles were airlifted to hospital, injuries for these four occupants are moderate to serious.

Two other occupants suffered minor injuries.

The road is closed and likely to be until about 3pm today. Because of the place where the crash occurred there were no provisions for detours, but Police are working to get one lane open and this should be open for one way traffic aided by Police staff by 1.15pm.

Police are making enquiries into the cause of the crash.
