SH1 reopens after crash between Templeton and Rolleston

Canterbury Police can confirm that a pedestrian is in a critical condition following a serious crash on SH1 Main South Road between the intersection of Curraghs Road and Weedons Ross Road at 3.55pm today (1 December 2014).

The car, a dark silver/grey Mazda saloon, is reported to have struck a pedestrian, a 14 year old exchange student from Lincoln High School, as he crossed SH1 Main South Road this afternoon.  The boy was taken to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition with serious head injuries.  The driver of the Mazda was uninjured and the car has been towed for examination by Canterbury Police’s Serious Crash Unit.

Police investigations into the crash are continuing.

SH1 reopened shortly after 6.30pm and Police ask the public to be patient while heavy traffic in the area clears. 

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the crash to contact them on 03 347 9248 and leave a message.
