Cost recovery looks at how some costs for Police services, currently free to the customer or heavily subsidised, may be recovered.
In November 2016 the Policing Act 2008 was amended to allow cost recovery in the Police. Regulations are currently being written to set the fees for the Police Vetting Service. Cost recovery in the Police Vetting Service will improve the way Police resources are used, enhance service delivery and provide better value for money within the Police.
At present the only service being proposed for cost recovery is the Police vetting service.
