Significant number of burglary charges laid after search warrant in Christchurch

1 min read

Canterbury Police executed a search warrant at a residential address last week following an investigation into a number of night-time burglaries at commercial and retail premises.

Detective Senior Sergeant Scott Anderson says the area where these burglaries occurred stretched from Cranford Street in the north of the city to Bush Inn in the west and Sydenham in the south.  “Over the last month there had been a spike in the number of night-time burglaries in these areas.  An operation targeting this increase concluded last week after Police executed a search warrant at a residential address in the Shirley area.  One person was arrested as a result of this search warrant”

A man has been remanded in custody to appear in Christchurch District Court on 27 August 2015 charged with a significant number of burglary offences.

“This arrest is a timely reminder for shops and commercial premises to secure cash away at night, have appropriate lighting at the front of your shop and if you have an alarm ensure it is working and set when you leave at the end of the day.  Installation of CCTV systems is not only a good deterrent it can also assist in the apprehension of anyone committing a crime against your business” says Detective Senior Sergeant Anderson

Any members of the public who see any suspicious activity are urged to contact Police straight away by calling 111.

Information can also be provided anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
