Phone scam alert - Wellington

1 min read

Today we received numerous reports about a phone scam where callers say they are from IRD, that money is owed and if not paid immediately you will be arrested by Police. This is a scam!

These scammers will often say you need to pay them with iTunes vouchers - so if you work in retail please be aware of people buying large amounts of vouchers and check with them that they are not being scammed.

You can report suspicious calls or emails to phishing@ird.govt.nz and via the Netsafe website.

There are many different numbers being used to run this scam, so you can also report these to your phone provider to assist with blocking further calls.
